Here is an official news update from ArtGrounds:
"As you all know, ArtGrounds and Sketcher haven't been maintained for a few years. We're aware of all the technical issues that have cropped up, but we (Thor, Braden) think the system needs a complete remake, not patching.
Occasionally, we get people asking us if or when we're going to get the system back in shape. This is difficult, because Thor, the main developer, is now a full-time software contractor.
If Thor is going to develop a new up-to-date system, he will need to devote all his time to it. However, Thor needs food and shelter, and must devote all his time to paying customers. A remake of ArtGrounds and Sketcher is thus only going to happen if money is put on the table.
Perhaps enough interest in a Patreon or Kickstarter (or similar) can be drummed up. However, this is where the ArtGrounds community needs to take some initiative. If the community can prove that there's sufficient interest in a new system, then Thor will be happy to step up and do the development work."
